Dangerous Goods must be clearly identified and labelled whilst being stored in your facility or while being transported.

Dangerous goods diamond signs are hazard signs used for areas where dangerous goods are transported or may be stored. This toxic gas sign features a skull and crossbones symbol above the words toxic gas followed by a large, bold number 2. The sign comprises a white background with black wording and symbols.

Signage of dangerous goods is done so in accordance with local State and Territory legislation. Identifying these dangerous solids, liquids or gases is important to keep people, animals, property and the environment safe from harm.

Toxic gases may may cause death or injury on inhalation. Many of these also have other properties (e.g. may be flammable, oxidising or corrosive). Class 2.3 is never used as a subsidiary risk. If a material meets the criteria it will be classified as a toxic gas

As a guide, some examples of toxic gases include anhydrous ammonia, methyl bromide, sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide.

Know what your labelling requirements are by referring to the Australian Dangerous Goods Code which outlines the mandatory requirements for identifying each dangerous good. For more information visit www.ntc.gov.au
